Helgoland displays Satellite Map

legramo
Hi all,

As you know, the Sensor Web Thin Client (Helgoland) displays the map using
Open Street Map or OpenCycleMap. Is there any intention to incorporate
satellite maps into future versions of helgoland? Is there any way to make
it possible right now? Thanks!

Cheers

Re: Helgoland displays Satellite Map

Henning Bredel-5
Hi,

not an expert on Helgoland, but you could have a look at

  https://github.com/52North/helgoland/blob/develop/www/settings.json

Try to add further layers in your settings ...

If you have access to your satellite imagery via WMS, you can add it as layer as
described here:

  http://leafletjs.com/examples/wms/wms.html

(I guess that wmsOptions are meant to be layerOptions from config, though).

Hope this helps

  Henning

Re: Helgoland displays Satellite Map

Hi Helling,

Thanks for your response.

I've modified the file "settings.json" in my VM but no change has been
observed at the Helgoland client. Cpuld anyone let me know which is the
right file to modify? If you agree you could paste the complete path of the
file. Thanks!

Hi,

sorry for the late response, I didn't see your mail, that you weren't
successful. Actually, Henning, was right, this should be configured in
the settings.json.

You can add your WMS configuration beside the 'Hillshade Europe' wms in
the 'overlay' property [1] in a similar way. How does your configuration
look like, did you get any errors in the browser console.

Best Regards,
Jan

Re: Helgoland displays Satellite Map

legramo
Hi,

Thanks for your response, but I'm still *unable *to make it work.

It's the first time that I have to modify the configuration of 52N by
command line, and I'm pretty new using Tomcat...* should I generate a new
.war file after modifying the settings.json? How?*

Following your advice, I've modified the file /
/opt/tomcat/webapps/sos/static/client/helgoland/settings.json
/ (the .war file is called sos.war at it's allocated at
/opt/tomcat/webapps/) but no changes are shown at Helgoland. For instance in
order to know if something was being updated, I've tried to change the name
of the overlay "Hillshade Europa". For that purpose I've modified the file
sttings.json, but after restarting the VM nothing has happened (the name was
the original one)...

Thanks for your patience

Re: Helgoland displays Satellite Map

Hi,

No, as far as i know you don't need to generate a new war-file after
modifying.

You can also configure/change the settings.json before you deploy the
war-file. This can be done by opening the war-file with an unzipping
tool, there you can navigate to the settings.json, edit it and than save
the war-file. After that you can use the "edited" war-file for the
deployment.

Maybe you are in trouble with the browser-caching? Some browsers are
really aggressive by caching even static JSON-Files like the
settings.json. You can also open the settings.json in your browser, to
check your changes. Go to the client-url and append settings.json (eg. [1])

Best regards,
Jan

Re: Helgoland displays Satellite Map

legramo
Thanks Jan! You were right, probably my browser-caching didn't allow me to
test the changes at settings.json

Right now, I know how to modify the file and how to check it. The next step
is to "insert" an overlay with satellite imagery. For that purpose,
following the Henning's advices , I've linked the service
http://leafletjs.com/examples/wms/wms-example-crs.html
<http://leafletjs.com/examples/wms/wms-example-crs.html>   . It means that
my settings.json looks like this:

 "overlays": {
    "hillshade": {
      "name": "Satellite",
      "type": "wms",
      *"url": "https://demo.boundlessgeo.com/geoserver/ows?",*
      "visible": false,
      "layerOptions": {
        "layers": "nasa:bluemarble"
      },
      "group": "Raster"
    }
  }

Actually, you can check that it works  :
http://wsncentral.iecolab.es <http://wsncentral.iecolab.es>

Unfortunately the resolution is pretty low when you zoom in... *does anybody
know any wms service which provides high resolution for satellite imagery?*
Thanks!

Best

Re: Helgoland displays Satellite Map [SOLVED]

legramo
Solved! How?

1. Modify your settings.json file (you don't need to touch the .war file)

2. Add a new baselayer at the settings.json file:
 "satellite": {
      "name": "Satellite",
      "type": "xyz",
      "url":
"https://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Imagery/MapServer/tile/{z}/{y}/{x}",
      "visible": false
    }

3. That's all

Thanks to all of you who support me with this task.

Cheers
